The Inter-American Court of Human Rights: Case-Law and Commentary
This work offers the first systematic analysis of the case law of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights to be published in the English language. The book provides a comprehensive collation and commentary on the jurisprudence of the Court, situating it in the broader context of international human rights law, drawing comparisons in particular with the case law of the European Court of Human Rights. It features coverage of both procedural and substantive human rights law.
Comprehensively indexed and cross-referenced, the book offers, for the first time in English, ready access to the jurisprudence of one of the major regional human rights courts. It will be of use to the judiciary, human rights practitioners, human rights activists, government institutions, academics, and students alike.
Based on an original French publication, the book has been fully updated and rewritten and includes extensive bibliographies for each of the issues and rights selected for commentary.
NYC - UES - Center for Inter-American Relations
The Center for Inter-American Relations, formerly the Percy and Maud H. Pyne House, at 680 Park Avenue, was built by McKim, Mead & White in 1912. The southern terminus of four landmark townhouses on this block, called Pyne-Davison Blockfront due to the uniform architectural quality, this house was commissioned by the financier and philanthropist Percy Pyne and his wife in 1906, but construction didn't begin until 1910 when the railroad tracks along Park Avenue were finally covered. One of the earliest Park Avenue townhouses, it set an 18th century design precedent that was followed by the three succeeding houses on this block. In 1965 demolition began on this house and its two neighbors, but in response to public outcry, the Marquesa de Cuevas, grandaughter of John D. Rockefeller, purchased the houses and donated them to various organization.
The Center for Inter-American Relations was designated a landmark by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission in 1970.

Is Brazil part of Latin America or an island unto itself? As Nossa and Nuestra AmA©rica: Inter-American Dialogues demonstrates, this question has been debated by Brazilian and Spanish American intellectuals alike since the early nineteenth century, though it has received limited scholarly attention and its answer is less obvious than you might think. This book charts Brazil's evolving and often conflicted relationship with the idea of Latin America through a detailed comparative investigation of four crucial Latin American essayists: Uruguayan critic JosA© Enrique RodA?, Brazilian writer-diplomat Joaquim Nabuco, Mexican humanist Alfonso Reyes, and SA©rgio Buarque de Holanda, one of Brazil's preeminent historians. The author argues that Brazil plays a necessary - and necessarily problematic - role in the intellectual construction of "Latin America." Nossa and Nuestra AmA©rica will be of interest to scholars and students of Latin American and Luso-Brazilian literature and ideas, and to anyone interested in rethinking comparative approaches to literary texts written in Portuguese and Spanish.
